Electing to leave

This article from Harper’s about different options for departing the country is entertaining, if not a bit depressing. In one sense it’s informative, but in another sense, I feel like it helps perpetuate the myth of “You can never escape. There’s nothing you can do except get back to work.” I mean, it basically ends saying that your “best” option is to just imagine you live in your own country. Fucking retarded. But then, that is essentially the crypto-anarchist philosophy. Live physically in this country, and pay homage to Caesar, but conduct all your real business through secret encrypted networks and untraceable currency systems. Even that seems kind of stupid though in the end, to only be “free” in electronic space. Although the whole idea of living parasitically within the system does have a certain appeal and amount of worth to it.

  1. While I’m at it, this “Leave it to Bush” cartoon is hilarious.
  2. Also, this Canada 2.0 map kind of rules.
  3. The world electoral vote is also halfway decent.
