With us or with the terrorists

People sometimes talk about how Bush inserts religious references into his speeches all the time, but I’ve never seen anybody point out the biggest example of that. I happened across this accidentally in a book a few weeks ago, then lost track of it, then found it again just now. In Mark 9:40, Jesus says to his disciples:

    For whoever is not against us is for us.

And it’s no great leap to turn this around and Texa-fy it into Bush’s classic terrorism “rallying-cry”:

    “You’re either with us or against us in the fight against terror.”
