People sometimes talk about how Bush inserts religious references into his speeches all the time, but I’ve never seen anybody point out the biggest example of that. I happened across this accidentally in a book a few weeks ago, then lost track of it, then found it again just now. In Mark 9:40, Jesus says to his disciples:
- For whoever is not against us is for us.
And it’s no great leap to turn this around and Texa-fy it into Bush’s classic terrorism “rallying-cry”:
- “You’re either with us or against us in the fight against terror.”
