The other day, I wrote a post about AdBusters magazine, and how I didn’t really like it for a variety of reasons. Actually, it was only tangentially about that. But anyway, I just figured out why I’ve always thought AdBusters doesn’t seem quite right to me: IT’S CANADIAN! I never knew that. This is not a jab at Canadia. In fact, I really like it there and Canadians, in general, seem to rule. But anyway, yeah, in Canadia’s much more intellectual, artistic and nuanced culture, AdBusters makes perfect sense. I mean shit, when you watch TV news in Canadia, you actually hear the news. It’s incredible. But when you take AdBusters out of that context, and put it into American culture, it just seems sort of like preachy or college-y. Just like when you put Americans into Canadian culture (or anywhere else for that matter) they seem like loud-mouthed ignorant assholes. But anyway, I just wanted to announce that I now “got” why they are the way they are - they’re Canadians! And god bless ‘em for that! Someday I’ll come join you, my northern brethren…
