Christians say the darnedest things!

Alright, I have seen this happen a bunch of times now. Why do real serious Christians feel compelled to argue that separation of church and state is a myth? They always do it in the same way too. They open up the old First Amendment, and look for the words “separation” and “church” and “state” and not seeing those words there, they declare that EUREKA! This concept simply doesn’t exist! It was simply made up liberals and faggots and nazis so that we could burn Bibles and murder their firstborn, all in the name of our Dark Overlord.

But I’m getting ahead of myself… I didn’t set out to argue whether or not separation of church and state really exists (which it most assuredly does and should), I wanted to have the question answered: WHY? What do Christians who argue that there’s no separation hope to gain by arguing against this? Do they want the Church to run the State? Don’t they see the trouble of that? They should see it, with all their denominational in-fighting and disagreeing. Which Church should be married to the state? And don’t just say “the Christian” because that’t not a church. That’s a loosely connected network of smaller networks with wildly varying beliefs.
