Rep. Ed Shrock’s Gay Sex Tapes
If this isn’t just the definition of ironic, then I don’t know what is. It seems that one of the most conservative congressmen in the country resigned over a gay sex tape snafu. I guess this happened over the summer, but I just read about it the other day. Ed Shrock of Virginia ended his bid for a third term over allegations that he had placed phone personal ads on a service for gay men. This wouldn’t have been such a big deal, if he weren’t one of the co-sponsors for the Amendment to keep gays from marrying, and he has enormously positive backing from the Christian Coalition. The guy who made the tapes public is apparently a guy rights activist who is trying to point out that some of the most vehemently anti-gay politicians are actually living gay lifestyles themselves. So I guess all those Mark Morford articles were right then… Read more about it at the Washington Post’s article from this summer.
It’s crazy how being gay forces people to resign. Or even the possibility that they might be gay. What a retarded country we live in. If anything, he should have been applauded for “going on with his bad self,” and then he should have publicly come out and turned around the focus of his politics for the good. Of course, that would never happen. This isn’t la-la land.
