John Lennon’s Alien Encounters

Thanks to Daniel Sale’s Blog, I just came across a very curious article about how John Lennon was supposedly contacted by aliens in 1975, while laying in bed with Yoko Ono. The article apparently is about the famed psychic (and some might say scam artist) Uri Geller. Geller is evidently the source for this story, and he claims to have been in possession of a metal egg which the aliens gave to John Lennon, and which Lennon in turn gave to Geller.

Geller quotes Lennon as saying:

“I was asleep in my bed, with Yoko in the Dakota Building. And suddenly, I wasn’t asleep. There was this blazing light, shining through the door,” Telegraph quoted Uri as repeating Lennon’s words.

“It was like someone was out there with searchlights, or the apartment was on fire. I leapt out of bed and there were four people. They were little, bug-like creatures, with big bug eyes and little bug mouths and they were scuttling at me like roaches,” he added.

I’ve never heard any of this before, but evidently its sort of a popular legend - Lennon’s mid 70’s alien encounters. About.com has a small page of links to info on it. I’ll just cull the best stuff and paste it in here though. One page has a few different things on it, one of which says:

Lennon’s sighting occurred when he was with his personal secretary, May Pang, in New York, at the time when he and Yoko Ono were separated.

He refers to the experience on the cover of his album “Walls And Bridges”, which was released in 1974, saying that he saw a UFO on August 23.

Then there is this big passage where May Pang talks about how she and John saw this UFO fly right by their apartment and then called the police. Apparently the police got a bunch of other reports at the same time also. But I guess this is a different incident altogether than the visitation Geller describes above. (Anyway, that reference to the album “Walls and Bridges” is especially interesting to me, because since last night I’ve been trying to wrangle a copy of the song “#9 Dream” from that album.)

Oh here we go, this is a much better explanation of the 1974 sighting with May Pang. Here is fun excerpt from that:

May remembers John’s arms outstretched as he yelled at the UFO to come back and take him away! “He was very serious and I believe he really wanted that thing to take him with it back to wherever it came from, but then that was John Lennon, always looking for the next big adventure”.

Also, this:

When his album, “Walls and Bridges”, was released in the Autumn of 1974, any fan would see the notation on the booklet that accompanied the record. On the bottom right of the back cover it reads “On 23 August 1974, I saw a UFO J.L.”.

Also, in his song, “Nobody Told Me,” (off of Milk & Honey) Lennon sings…

There’s Ufo’s over New York and I ain’t too surprised.
Nobody told me there’d be days like these

Here’s another page with a brief excerpt from an interview with Lennon about it. It also says here that he talked about his experience with David Bowie and Patti Labelle or some such. (This other article says it was Ava Cherry, not Patti Labelle)

The other weird trail I want to follow here is that 1974 is the same year Philip K. Dick had all his mystical shit go down. More on that in a minute.

UPDATE!

Oh my fucking god… I seriously had no damn idea that today was the anniversary of John Lennon’s assassination. Wow, what a weird coincidence that I started getting into all this stuff about him late last night, and then just now. That’s fucking spooky.
