Three French Hens

Let’s see, what’s today, the third day of Christmas, I think. That means we’re up to three French hens. Or rather, we’re supposed to be. Today for me instead consisted of waking up at my sister’s house on Long Island, and riding across the Long Island Sound on the Orient Point Ferry into New Haven, CT, which is near where my other older sister lives. I’m up here for the overly elaborate reason of catching a ride from a friend passing through here on his way from his parents house back down to Baltimore. What I will do in Baltimore, and how long I will do it is entirely up in the air at this point. There’s a good chance I will merely stop there for a night and continue on my merry way to Pittsburgh. And there’s probably an equally good chance that I will instead linger on until New Year’s rears its ugly head, and then move on after that. That’s the option I’d prefer, but we’ll see how the cards play out once the hand is in motion.

If I do stick around in Baltimore the rest of this week, I need to get some serious planning and work done, because I have been slacking off like crazy this month. Not in a bad way, of course - because the purpose and effect of it all has been to dislodge me from my old patterns and to force me into some new phase of my life. And that kind of shit is almost always positive. And the times that it doesn’t seem positive are the times when you’re not yet able to see all the good places it’s going. But like I said, I need to get some serious work done. I basically took a month off from working on my book, and I need to come back and kick that thing square in the balls. I needed some time to think and sort some things out, and I’m completely confident that I’ve done that and am ready to bring it all back home.

Now if I can only work out this whole three French hen thing, then I’ll be all set.
