Each morning the for the past two days, I’ve awoken just after having a dream which focused around some kind of statement which seemed really profound and important in the dream, but seems a lot more trite once I’m fully awake. Yesterday, delivered in song was the message:
- You can always depend on love.
This has always been sort of an ideal I’ve held, although it has not necessarily been borne out by my experience thus far. But I’m willing to wager it’s been my fault. So maybe the dream platitude is right. But anyway, this morning, I had one where I had another message which I painted on a piece of stained glass to give to a friend which said:
- The final conduct of man shall determine his art.
Or something to that effect. I forget the actual wording of the second half of it. But the message was essentially that you shouldn’t worry - as an artist - about “your art” so much as you should live you life correctly, and then have you art flow out of that. I certainly agree with that much, although I think a lot of times it can be really valuable to use your art to figure out how you need to live your life, so maybe it goes both ways.
