One Ring to Rule Them All
The other day, I posted something really interesting about how people who seek to return to a traditional family where the husband is in charge, do so because it supports an authoritarian patriarchal society structure.
- …the family acts as a training ground for individuals relationship to society. If the family is structured in such a way where the father is the head of the household and his word is law, then the individual will have an easy transition to accepting a society at large which is ruled by an autocratic government. Conversely, if the family is not structured like that, then when the individual enters society, they will not understand or possibly accept a society which is ruled over by such a government.
What I didn’t consider at the time, although it seems totally obvious now is that monotheism functions in EXACTLY the same way. If you’re mentally and emotionally conditioned since birth to kneel before one all-powerful God, you’ll immediately accept and in fact seek out an earthly government which will support this intellectual/emotional patterning. In other words, a single omnipotent God will make you seek out a totalitarian government.
A fun sidenote: there’s this whole interplay between whether or not God is to be feared, or if he has total love for us. This sort of constant worrying and apprehension about whether at any one moment God is going to smite you or hug you creates an intensely paranoid and servile mindset, where you are always watching your back on the one hand, and wishing against all hope for loving reward on the other. This is such an excellent way to keep people in subjugation, and is really quite a lovely metaphor for how government simultaneous protects and fucks you.
