The Gnostic Cosmic Origins of Humanity

This quote from an article on Metahistory illustrates beautifully why Gnostic cosmology is so damned impenetrable and awesome at the same time:

According Gnostic cosmology, the template for a number of strains of the human species (collectively called the Anthropos) was projected from the galactic core as an imaginative project of the Aeons, ithe indwelling gods. In one version of this event, if was the paired Aeons, Sophia and Christos, who received this singularity from the Originator (the core) and transmitted it outwards into the galactic limbs where it could gestate and emerge in various worlds. The template was deposited as a molecular lattice (a veil of nucleic acid) in the depths of the Orion Nebula, in the Trapezium, a tight formation of four stars. From there the Anthropos is “seeded” by spore-feeding into various world-systems.

So, a cosmic current surged from the galactic core into the limbs—an event that science today acknowledges. But in mythological terms, the current was a self-aware entity, a torrential surge of plasma, alive and sentient. This current, the Aeon Sophia, was fascinated by the Anthropos template, strung like dew in a spider’s web around the stars of the Trapezium. She imagined the beauty of a unique world the Anthropos could inhabit, a world of her design. And she desired to produce this singularity by herself, without a consort or counterpart from the galactic core. So the myth has it…

This shit consistently blows my mind over and over. Whoever it was that called Gnosticism a sci-fi theology is totally right. It sounds like the world’s best episode of Star Trek the Next Generation (because all the other Star Trek’s are gay!).
