The need for heroes
In going back over some of my older writings, I came across a bit I rather like from an article about different heroes that I have had growing up, and the psychological/emotional roles they have helped play.
- At some point in your upbringing, “they” try to get you to make the shift from imaginary heroes to ones that exist in the so-called “real” world. But let’s face it, they ALWAYS suck compared to super-heroes. Real life heroes can NEVER fly, and they almost never become heroes because of flipping out and killing a bunch of people.
Actually, I suspect the reason that people start shepherding kids towards having real life heroes, is to start preparing you for your eventual vocation. I mean, no one gets a college scholarship for having an adamantium skeleton. And huge claws aren’t going to land you that comfortable corporate job you’re being groomed for.
If only you could get a college scholarship for having an adamantium skeleton… Or better yet, if you could get a scholarship in order to GET an adamantium skeleton. That’d be pretty kickass as well.
