Just a couple research snapshots on the topic of “quests”. First ones from some kind of New Agey take on The Grail Quest:
- Humans are basically wayfarers or wanderers ever seeking, consciously or unconsciously, home, a return to paradise where our fathers and mothers came from our ancestors, and the high places and low places where the ancient ones communed directly with heaven and earth. So it is that sacred pilgrimage extends far back into the very haze of humanities awakening as a source and wellspring of religious culture and myth. To ever seek over the far horizon stirs the very lifeblood of the spiritual wayfarer in their on-going quest for the magic and power of the un-familiar and the ever aliveness of that moment of sacred space and sacred time. To quest is to feel alive; to feel alive is to quest.
And another one called the Quest of the Grail Warrior:
- The pursuit of the Grail, after all, is the deep and enduring search for one’s selfhood. Each of us is charged, upon incarnating, to discover who and what we are, and then to use that identity in the service of Spirit. Initially, the path centers upon outer events and circumstances, as one grapples to give an enduring meaning and significance to experiences. Through pain and suffering, the ego becomes more flexible and permeable, and the inner realm competes with the outer for attention. Events are seen as learning situations, with every circumstance and person a teacher come to help us learn about ourselves. Coming to terms with one’s demons and unresolved patterns is the ultimate challenge. As the fears and limitations are faced with courage, perseverance and resiliency, the walls separating one from the presence of Spirit dissolve, and the Grail is revealed in all its splendor.
