Chalcedon Strikes Back
A while ago I wrote about Christian Reconstructionism which is an extremely startling religious movement among ultra-conservative Christians that essentially seeks a return to ancient Hebraic law and a theocratic government based on Biblical principles. If this doesn’t sound familiar to people, it should, because it’s gaining a lot of ground in the US and needs to be looked at.
In any event, they also seem to be looking at us, as I just got the following letter from the Chalcedon Foundation, one of the Reconstructionist groups:
- Regarding Christian Reconstruction, you wrote, “I don’t know about anybody else, but this is all making my head spin furiously around and around in circles. Pretty soon, it’s gonna pop right off. I really need to look into all this in more depth, and hope others of you reading this will as well. I’d be delighted to read what you come up with - assuming, of course, my head doesn’t explode before then.”
I hope your head doesn’t explode. If there’s anything you need to know feel free
to contact us. We don’t hide.
Rev. Christopher J. Ortiz
Director of Communications
The Chalcedon Foundation
Editor, Faith for All of Life
Fortunately Reverend, my head has not yet exploded, but who knows… isn’t the inauguration coming up? It might then, although I’m trying to basically ignore what’s happening in our government. In any event, I don’t have any particular questions to ask Rev. Ortiz, but I do appreciate the gentle good humor with which he seems to have approached me. It’s good to know that they “don’t hide;” although based on some of the things I’ve seen that they stand for on their website, maybe that’s not actually such a good sign.
In any event, here’s to open dialogue among people who disagree (with fervor)!
