So, I finally saw these screenshots of the new A Scanner Darkly movie that’s coming out. I guess it’s this year, I don’t know. Supposedly, there is going to be a trailer for it at Constantine which I plan on seeing also. You know, when I first heard that Linklater was going to be doing this, and in an animated style similar to Waking Life, I was pretty skeptical about the whole thing. And now that I see these screenshots, well, I’m even MORE skeptical. In fact, my level of skepticism has risen from “Guarded” to “Holy Shit! This will probably suck really hard!” In fact, I made a nice little graphic, so now you KNOW that I’m not just making this up (wink-wink!).

Anyway, what was the problem with just making this movie in the normal movie style that everybody loves? Who decided that it had to be a super suck-fest of cheesy drawing? Or, if you have to animate it, then just animate it. Don’t do this bullshit of animating over film. It’s retarded and it frankly doesn’t look very good. Also, who decided that Charlie Kaufman, one of my favorite screenwriters, was going to get canned from writing this script? He’s probably one of the only people who would have done it justice, especially based on Eternal Sunshine. Anyway, Scanner is one of my favorite books is why I’m so uppity about it. Chances are I’ll still throw my money down the Hollywood craphole so I can see this in the theatre. But you can be damn sure I’ll be wallowing in indignation while I do!

In other movie news, apparently Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman have teamed up to create a movie called Mirror Mask about a little girl whose family works for the circus who wants to run away to Real Life. They are also working with Henson Studios. The Gaiman/McKean team has done some awesome work in the past, so we’ll see.

Oh snap! There’s also going to be a sequel to Deuce Bigalow! Yes! Now that’s a huge bitch!
