As promised in a previous post, I want to put together a list of all my favorite metaphysical, occult, paranormal, spiritual & other non-ordinary types of mysteries. I don’t know if I’ll be able to really rank which ones are more tantalizing or what, but I just want to put together a little list, and invite people for additions to this “best of” type of list.
Okay, this list will probably undergo some revisions as I remember better things or thing of more inclusive ways to describe stuff, but here goes (in no particular order). A lot of these also bleed very heavily into one another:
- 1. The idea that the universe is somehow holographic, and all the resultant fun that entails
2. The nature of time: specifically that it doesn’t actually flow, but that everything is simultaneous, and that there are methods to access other points in time
3. The origin of human consciousness in relation to the ingestion of entheogenic plants, and the later use of entheogens in religious/mystical initiation rituals
4. That the mind might best be understood as a polytheistic pantheon of multiple interacting archetypal complexes, and that the focus on a monotheistic/egoic consciousness might have damaging effects on humanity
5. Gnosis, Christ/Buddha-Consciousnes, Philip K. Dick’s idea of the homoplasmate
6. That the mind functions as a “reducing valve” to filter out information from the cosmos which does not generally enhance survival; that the mind functions as a radio, tuned to the particular reality that is trained in by culture, and that other “stations” can picked up.
7. That matter is somehow composed of information, or that information might be a living force
8. That there may be entities masquerading as or camouflaged to appear human which are quite different from humans (to put it positively), or inhuman / less-than-human.
9. That human consciousness and culture may have been seeded and/or guided throughout history by non-human forces towards specific ends
10. That there are “negative” forces which seek to enslave or control humanity, whether they are themselves human or non-human - ie, Philip K. Dick’s “Black Iron Prison” or “The Empire never ended.”
Yeah, that’s a good start for now, though this’ll probably be revised over time. I also ought to come back and set up links to posts which deal with each of these topics. Now that I see them all lined up together, it’s interesting to see that they are all pretty much related to the nature of consciousness and reality, and variations thereof. For me, this sort of backdrop is more interesting than shit like, “Do ghosts exist?” or “What planet are UFO’s from?” I feel like if I were to really and truly grasp even just a fraction of the implications of a handful of the mysteries that I described above, that all the subsidiary specific paranormal oddities and everything else would immediately fall into place.
Anyway, if anybody has any other good ones that I’m leaving out, drop them into my comment box.
