This is a cool passage from a speech by Terence McKenna which I found on the Fusion Anomaly page about glossolalia (speaking in tongues).

After classical glossolalia has occurred, the glossolaliasts often turn to ask the people nearby, “Did I do it? Did I speak in tongues?” This hallucinogen induced phenomenon isn’t like that; it’s simply a brain state that allows the expression of the assembly language that lies behind internal language, or a primal language of the sort that Robert Graves discussed in The White Goddess, or a internal Kabbalistic language of the sort that is described in the Zohar, a primal ur sprach that comes out of oneself. One discovers one can make the extradimensional objects — the feeling-toned, meaning-toned, three-dimensional rotating complexes of transforming internal light and color. To know this is to feel like a child. One is playing with colored balls; one has become the Aeon.

And what they meant was use your voice to make an object. And as I understood, I felt a internal bubble kind of grow inside of me. And I watched these little elf tykes jumping in and out of my chest; they like to do that to reassure you. And they said, ‘Do it.’ And I felt internal language rise up in me that was unhooked from english, and I began to speak.. like this, ‘Ehh yo ca dem wa, etc.. .. or words to that effect. And I wondered then what it all meant and why it felt so good if it didn’t mean anything. And I thought about it, a few years actually, and I decided that meaning and language are two different things. And that what the alien voice in the internal psychedelic experience wants to reveal is the syntactical nature of internal reality. That the real secret of internal magic is that the world is made of words, and that if you know the words that the world is made of you can make of it whatever you wish.

I guess in that second quote, he’s specifically talking about his experiences on DMT. Has anybody ever tried that stuff? There’s all kinds of crazy stuff written about it.
