As if McDonald’s wasn’t already the world’s greatest shithole/portal to hell, McDonald’s has decided to start fucking over minimum wage laborers. Wait, I’m sorry. I meant to say fucking them over harder.

McDonald’s in Oregon thinks that the minimum wage is too high there at $7.25, and is going to have a system installed which will allow workers in North Dakota to take your drive-thru order, where they will only have to pay workers $5.15.

I’m surprised this is even legal, but I’m more surprised that they are using North Dakota. Why not send the calls to a call center in fucking Pakistan or Bangladesh or whatever? That way, McDonald’s would probably only have to pay out a fucking fraction of North Dakota’s minimum wage.

Note that the news organization has this story filed in “Weird Headlines” along with pictures of purple polar bears. Lowest stratum of employees on the pay scale now competing for scraps with people three states away who get paid even less. How “cute.”

There was also a good comment over there by Steven of Deconsumption, who said:

I don’t even understand why they have an order-taker at all. Why not just install an automated machine where you’d insert your credit/debit card (or choose “pay at window”), punch the pictures of the items you want, verify your order, and then drive around to the window and get your food?

I was wondering about that also, but I decided that it probably would cost more to build, install and maintain that kind of automated system than it just would be to have a person standing there for (less than) minimum wage. That’s my guess anyway.
