Religion News Blog has a sweet little story for Valentine’s day about how Indonesia is seeking to revise its legal system so that public kissing becomes illegal. Also punishable criminally will be men and women living together who are unmarried and adultery (Hey wait, this is starting to sound like Christian Reconstructionism!)

Evidently, this new criminal code took 25 years to draft, which is pretty intense. It’s slated to enter debate shortly. Here’s an absurd example of punishments for smooching:

Offenders caught kissing in the open could be jailed up to 10 years and fined as much as 300 million rupiah (33,000 dollars) under new penalties.

The funniest part of this whole thing though, besides the obviously enormous ridiculous level of suppression is that this system is intended to replace a Dutch colonial criminal code from 1886. They claim that the Dutch code is “outdated.” I mean, this is HILARIOUS; they’re fucking putting people in jail for TEN YEARS for KISSING! Talk about outdated.
