A zoo in Germany recently carried out DNA tests on their penguins to try and figure out why the birds had been mating for years without producing any chicks.

Turns out they were gay.

Certain species of birds, it’s very difficult (for humans) to figure out what sex they are. That’s why they have to do things like blood tests and other shenanigans. Anyway, at this zoo, they realized that six of their penguins had been living in homosexual relationships for years. They’d been mating as usual, and one couple had even adopted a stone which they protected as though it were an egg.

This sort of thing has evidently happened before with these types of penguins, and usually attempts to separate the homosexual couples do not work. Towards that end, the zoo has imported several females from a Swedish zoo in an attempt to lure the gay penguins into going straight. The idea is that this is an endangered species, so they want to make sure they propagate. I guess otherwise, they would just let them keep being gay, who knows. You do have to wonder though, if this maybe is why they became endangered in the first place.

Anyway, here’s a perfect example of how fundamentalist Christians are skating (or waddling) on pretty thin ice when they say that homosexual unions are unnatural. Penguins aren’t subject to Original Sin, or the Fall, or any of that other hocus-pocus bullshit. They are just god’s creatures, out there doing their “thang,” so to speak.
