Hey, I have a question for all y’all. You know how like old sailing ships had those statues of like a woman or a mermaid or whatever on their prow? Is there a word for those? Because if there is, I forgot it and I want to know it. I think in this past week’s new Simpson’s episode (which was abyssmally bad), the Sea Captain was getting married to one at the very end. That’s not why I want to know about them. That’s just for reference.

Score! They are called figureheads. The word totally slipped my mind for a second. Here’s a pretty cool website of figurehead archives by a guy who apparently does restoration work on them. Seems like a pretty cool field to be working in, although I can’t imagine there’s a ton of money in it. But hey, my brother makes a living as a stained glass artist, and we’re working on some restoration right now. So shit’s out there, I guess.
