What’s the Agenda of Coast to Coast AM?

Has anybody out there listened to a lot of Coast to Coast AM? It’s this weird radio show where they talk about different paranormal stuff. I only started listening to it recently, on the advice of somebody who reads my website.

I’m curious to hear what the opinion is of people who are more long-term listeners. But for me, there is something vaguely unsettling about the program. I’m not quite able to pinpoint just what it is that’s bothering me though. But I feel like there is some kind of underlying root agenda or something. Maybe agenda isn’t the right word. Maybe viewpoint is a better word. I’m not sure. It just feels like there’s something slightly dastardly going on, every once in a while.

It particularly comes out whenever they come to the topics of terrorists or politics - which is actually pretty often. I mean, I recognize that these are important stories in our culture nowadays, and that terrorism has become the new container for a lot of age-old archetypal fears. Actually, I think the weird part may be that these people are sitting there talking about some FAR OUT FREAKY shit one minute, and then the next minute, they are essentially just sputtering out mainstream information about terrorism or politics, which is just total bullshit.

I feel like, for me, if you’re going to go off the deep end, go off the deep end. Really push the boundaries and explore what’s out there. If you’re into UFO’s and all kinds of shit about Atlantis and blah blah blah… is it really so difficult to imagine that those in power in the world would make up fake enemies to attack and be attacked by in order to consolidate their power? This to me is much much less of a stretch than anything else they talk about on that show. But like I said, I’ve not listened to the show more than 5-6 times. Maybe they get their freak on with this stuff sometimes more than others. I’ll have to take a reader poll on that one.

This is most assuredly something I’ve noticed in other places before though. This weird connection between paranormal people and conservative worldviews. I’ve never listened to Jeff Rense’s radio program, but so many of the news items found on that site seem to veer off into wild tangents of racism and xenophobia (which Fantastic Planet has mentioned before). It just seems fucked up to me that people could be so obsessed with space aliens, but so freaked out about illegal aliens.

Or maybe there’s just some psychological component of their’s that I’m missing. I don’t know. I’d really like to hear some other people’s views on this, as I feel like it’s an important topic.
