Inuit Christianity

Found a pretty interesting but short piece on a blog by a person who taught in an Inuit village for a while. This particular one is about how Christianity has pretty much wiped out traditional Inuit shamanic religion. Gotta wonder how many other millions of times that has happened in the world.

The people of Aanniajuak were converted to Christianity a long time ago. All the elders seem to be firm believers in Jesus, and they do not care to remember Inuit legends and beliefs. The ministers are Inuit, and most white people (Qallunaat) in the village aren’t Christian, so the children tend to think that Christianity is a traditional Inuit religion that we know nothing about.
