Pagans Testing Christians

Via AltReligion, I happened across an essay called “Test Those Christians: A Non-Believers Guide for Testing the True Christian.” At first, it seemed like sort of a clever idea to me, to turn the tables on those annoying-ass Christians who are basically just unthinking robots designed to make duplicates of themselves. But then I actually read the essay, and it just sort of pissed me off.

I think my problem with it really is that it just promotes this endless circular game that people are playing with literalist interpretations of religion. The essay basically suggests that you read certain Bible passages to Christians, and then make them drink containers of poop. It’s just stupid.

Actually, when you rephrase it like that, it’s kind of funny. But anyway, my point is that the reason Christians are so compelled to evangelize is because they are interpreting things literally. You taking it even more literally than them isn’t going to get you anywhere. It’s just going to further convince them that you need to be “won over to Christ.” A much better approach to this situation would just be to actually be cool and friendly with somebody who’s trying to convert you. And maybe you’ll be secure enough in your own beliefs that you can hear that and you won’t feel threatened, and you take advantage of an opportunity to communicate with somebody else heart-to-heart, instead of ideology-to-ideology.

The other problem I have with this stuff is that neo-pagans and wiccans are ALWAYS bitching about how nobody takes their religion seriously - especially Christians. But then, at the same time, they will turn around and completely piss on Christianity and on Christians. You just simply can’t have it both ways. Stuff like this makes me want to send missionaries to the homes of pagans just to get them all upset, and dream up juvenile revenge fantasies and post them online.
