Just spotted two articles on New Scientist about bionic suits that offer wearers “super-strength.” One is from this year and suggests that the technology would help “elderly and infirm” people to walk. For whatever reason, whenever a weird new technology comes out which changes the nature of our bodies, they always say that it’s for the disabled. Another related example comes from a similar device in 2001 which was pitched as a means of helping nurses to lift patients. As though that were somehow the most profitable and useful purpose for a technology which would vastly enhance human strength capabilities.
