Two Too Weird Ads

West Coast restaurant chain Carl’s Jr. has just released a new ad featuring a fetus in the womb complaining to his mother about her eating jalapeno hamburgers. From the article on seemingly ultra-conservative WorldNetDaily:

[…] a baby boy tries to get his mother’s attention by yanking on the umbilical cord, kicking his mom and ultimately grabbing part of the uterine wall in a suggestion he’ll intentionally tear it out during birth.

“Mom! You’re not wolfin’ down jalapenos again, are ya?” the unborn child with an adult man’s voice asks in the spot. “‘Cause let me tell you about my friend, Ned. His momma ate nothing but spicy foods, [and the] homeboy came out red, mom. Bright red. So if you keep cramming those peppers down your neck, I might just bust out of here early, grab something on the way out, take it with me.”

If that’s not creepy as shit, then I don’t know what is. Perhaps even creepier than that is a new ad from the UN to promote “landmine awareness” which features young kids playing soccer and getting blown up by a landmine.

The explosion appears to kill and injure some girls, sparking panic and chaos among parents and other children. Shrieks of horror are heard through much of the spot, and a father is shown cradling his daughter’s lifeless body, moments after celebrating a goal she had scored.

It closes with a tag line reading: “If there were landmines here, would you stand for them anywhere? Help the U.N. eradicate landmines everywhere.”

Not coincidentally, there is a “Related Special Offer” at the bottom of that page which reads “Are you sick and tired of the U.N.? Now there’s a way for every American to fight back!” which links to a petition on MoveAmericaForward.org. Ah… good times.

I am not sure what is creepy about the UN ad. Don’t you think the intention is to make the middle apathetic class aware of the reality of kids in other not so “rich ” countries where just playing is dangerous? It could also play into the the whole idea of what is really safe in this world. I personally like the ad, but I doubt it will get much air time as it is threatening to the reality of “soccer moms and dads” who are just trying to do the best they can for “their” kids. As for the other ad, it is just another “archon” concept to make people confused. I know I sound judgemental, but sometimes one has to be. It does play into the concept of a fetus being viable and hence how could anyone consider abortion, afterall the kid may be trying to communicate to you, but that brings up a “Whole Host” of other considerations.

Welcome to other people’s normal. They don’t want America to see the future yet.
