Psychosymbology?

This is only worthy of mention because it’s so stupid. Somebody sent me a link to this website on an “occult technique” called Psychosymbology. The email was written like they were a “fan” of this technique, but my intuition tells me they were being a bit dodgy, and this was actually nothing more than an ad for it.

The technique, in its entirety, is that you draw an astrological symbol of a planet on a piece of paper, tape it to the wall and stare at it - and PRESTO CHANGE-O! All your dreams have come true.

Come to think of it, this is pretty similar to that Rolling Stones song, “Far Away Eyes” off Some Girls.

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of jesus
Located somewhere in los angeles, california
And next week they’d say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true

Well, at least with psychosymbology you don’t have to send ten dollars. So there’s that. Anyway, this Psychosymbology page really cheeses me off. Check this out.

The very fact that you are reading this page implies that you are the type of person who wants to be in conscious and responsible control of invisible psychic forces and unknown potential. Practicing this science, no matter what you want, desire or need– a wife, a sex partner, wealth, power, house, whatever it can be yours through the great vastness and magic of your sub-conscious mind…. the right brain.

Words like “conscious” and “control” are surefire ways to guarantee that you never ever gain access to the “great vastness and magic” of your subconscious mind. These very concepts are anathema to it - as are weird shitty selfish desires for wish-fulfillment. Focusing on such things actually increases your fixation on the ego-consciousness, blinding you to other potentials.

I also love the line where they say later on (once you’ve drawn your symbol and taped it to the wall: “Concentrate on the picture, using only your right brain.” Fucking… the person who knows how to use “only their right brain would already be a wizard of the highest order. If people could spontaneously control that, they wouldn’t need to paste some dumb bullshit to the wall and stare at it, wishing for a circle with a cross under it to bring them sex. Ridiculous.

I think you’re being a bit harsh here. The site is a bit naive and superficial but the site’s creator is offering all this service for free, for example:

In case any body feel that he/she is a victim of Black Magic/ Witch craft, we will cure the person, by our healing method, a service to the human kind free of cost.

He just might be a natural intuitive or psychic and people like that are often not very subtle or cultivated in their intellectual style.

The psychosymbology technique closely resembles the use of a mantram for psychospiritual development. People with more visual-spatial sensibilities might prefer it to the chanting or repetition of a word-sound. Either way, the person is honouring a specific psychic energy, a deity or spirit (depending on the language one prefers).

Yes, it shares much with magical thinking but we all have a magical thinker within, do we not? Pleasing that part of us might have some merit.

This just looks like sigil working to me.

Anybody could make this work, but… *shrug* I’ve seen more interesting methods that work on the same fundamental premise.

yeah, it’s like chaos magick for dummies.

during the late sixties and seventies there were a lot of cheesy books published like ‘occult secrets of wealth and power!’ and ‘increase your sex life through the wisdom of the ancient masters!’ they were basically watered down ‘creative visualization’ books, pop-occultism. i had a few that i kept along for larfs. reminds me of those.

    here’s an example:
