The Father, Son & the Holy Ghost
Bitscape has put together an excellent new celebrity tarot card called the FemiKnight, which I thought offered up some great material symbolically. I’d also like to get more into us writing about each other’s cards, and cross-pollinating these ideas. So here goes…
In this card, we see Xena acting as sort of a militant feminist against the monster of the patriarchal society. Not sure if Bitscape realized this or not in the creation of that card, but I used an extremely similar monster in my card about excessive male sexuality: One-Eyed Willy. You see him there in his cyclopean form crouching behind Clinton’s leg. He is still small, but threatens to grow if “enraged” - much like the penis which this card not so subtly alludes to. Thinking more about this analogy, it makes me realize how much the Incredible Hulk character is also a play on this concept. In the FemiKnight card, we see this little guy blown up to full proportions, rampaging across a devastated landscape. What was once lush forest in the One-Eyed Willy card has become arid and ruined.
The only thing which can stop him is his feminine counterpart, also blown up to humongous proportions. Behind her is the lush green forest, of which she is guardian. Ironically, she wields the sword at the beast, the erect phallic weapon of the male (although we see the circle hanging from her waist as well, symbolic of the womb or the vagina).
My favorite thing about this card though is the trinity of heads on the male-monster. We see George Bush, Sr and Jr, and Osama bin Laden. Bitscape doesn’t explicitly mention this, but I think it’s a devastatingly clever rip-off of the trinitarian view of god. We have God the Father (George Bush, Sr) and The Son, whom the Father sends out to “save the world.” And then we have Osama Bin Laden. It would be easy enough to equate him with the devil, but I rather prefer the description of him as “The Holy Ghost” since he’s essentially waging a “Holy War” on behalf of Islam, and he’s ghostlike because he doesn’t seem to exist. No one can catch him, or pin down his location. In fact, he also was a known CIA asset - a “spook” in other words. It also cleverly shows that these three powers are working in cahoots. See my article: Satan as Terrorist of the Demiurge for more.

Thanks for the insights. I did sort of have a general idea of the Trinity Godhead as being representive of patriarchal religions, whose domination Xena fights. I hadn’t really thought specifically about Osama as the Holy Ghost, but now that you mention it, that totally fits! Extending the metaphor is the way to go.
