Amazonian Additions

I added a couple new features to the site tonight. First up is a page with some info about my Amazon Wishlist. Now, if you feel like you have to buy me a book, there’s nothing I can do to stop you. How unfortune! Ha! Or you can just access the wishlist directly, where you might find some cool books that you want for yourself.

The page I created for it on my site also uses something called the “amazonbox” from edazzle. It’s a little utility that lets you take the first X number of items from your wishlist and display them on your site. It’s handy, and it’s one of the few scripts like this that lets you include your Amazon Associate ID. Most sites that offer a script for this route them through their own ID.

Aside from that, I’m also trying out a new plugin called WP-Amazon. When I write posts, I’ll frequently reference a book or something from Amazon. I like to link to it so people can go look at it right away. A lot of times having to switch back and forth screens just makes me lazy though, so I don’t include the link. This WP-Amazon plugin inserts a link when you’re writing a post on Wordpress. What this link does is pop open a window with a search box, so you can look for a title or keywords, whatever. Then you can select an item, and it will automatically write out some HTML code for you. Here’s a trial example:

Now any time I want to link to the “Butt-Lifter” maternity jean, no sweat! See! Isn’t that a life-saver?

UPDATE!

I’ve since uninstalled this plugin as I don’t really see the purpose in it, since I can do this just as easily by opening another tab in Firefox!
