Pop Tarot - The Alarmist

Danger! Watch out! Here comes The Alarmist!

This very loud card features none other than everyone’s favorite alarmist, Alex Jones. The red-faced image comes from his scene in Waking Life where he’s driving around the neighborhood basically screaming. A pretty fitting summation of what he does. I was prompted to make this card after listening to his appearance on an old episode of Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. The dude gets himself worked up into such a fit, it’s really something.

Personally, I can’t really stomach Alex Jones brand of conspiracy theory. I mean I love hearing about this stuff, about secret Illuminati blah blah blah. I have no problem with any of that. It’s just the constant fear he’s peddling. In a way, it’s no different from the Bush administration trying to push terrorism up your ass 24/7. I mean, on the one hand, I can sort of see the “value” in what he does. He certainly reaches a huge audience and actually does have some good information. But it’s just the tone of it I can’t really handle. Just the constant ringing of alarm bells. It never seems to go away. I don’t see how anybody can live their life like that, even if 100% of everything he says is absolutely true (which I personally doubt). And it’s all packaged under this guise of patriotism. Well, maybe guise isn’t really the right word. Maybe he really means all of it. I just don’t like people coming into my house and screaming in my face.

But that’s exactly what this card is all about. This card is a “wake-up” call to the Sleeper. It may be the real thing, or it may be a false alarm. But in any event, it’s impossible to ignore. Maybe this is a good thing. This is also the card of “rude awakenings.” This card is also referenced by the alarm clock in the center of the Millennium card. And like in the case of the Millennium, the excitement may all turn out to be for nothing. So beware before you run off half-cocked! Unlike some of the other cards in the Pop Tarot deck, this one is anything but nuanced. And it’s not supposed to be. It’s pretty much a one trick pony. Otherwise it wouldn’t be alarmist. It doesn’t have a lot of deep arcane symbolism. It’s just an alarm screeching screeching over and over (whereas the Conscience card has more to do with gentle insistence on morality). The thing to remember in a reading though is that this alarm may have been pulled as a juvenile prank. It may be just another in a long line of tricks to break down your composure, and to overwhelm your sensibilities with fear. Once you have been woken up by this card, take a minute to relax and take a deep breath and get your bearings before you move on.
