Anti-Suicide Pact



Jeremy’s report of an activist “committing suicide” with a shotgun has prompted us to all think about our own untimely ends. While I’m not paranoid enough to think that I’m any kind of target for being “suicided” I do really like the idea of publicly proclaiming my devotion to never killing myself. Especially not with a shotgun, and especially not by shooting myself twice in the head, as in some other cases I’ve heard.

With that in mind, I’d like to announce the formation of an “Anti-Suicide Pact.” I’ll do a more formal write-up on this later, but basically it would be sort of a publicly available notice that you won’t ever off yourself on purpose. You can be all conspiratorial about it if you want, or it could just be a simple statement about the value of life. We could cross-post these at different sites, and include member names, etc. Until I have something more detailed put together though, here’s a little graphic you could put in your sidebar. Feel free to copy and distribute. Also, if anybody wants to contribute graphics and banners of their own, let me know. I’ll try and put together a page on this later tonight.

    You do that, it’ll just be ‘evidence’ of your obvious depression and weird tendencies. ;-)

    Not that plenty of ’suicides’ haven’t begun with declarations along the lines of “if anything happens to me…”

    yeah thats true. its more just for fun than anything thats going to stop anything. besides, how much more proof could they possibly need of my “weird tendencies”?

    I will sign up for the pact, but I have to admit that I don’t like the graphic… Could we come up with another one (preferably someone with more graphical ability than yours truly)

    Unfortunately this won’t stop you from being murdered. They’ll just use “accident”, or even straight-up murder so they can “tip their hand as a mechanism of control”. The only thing this pact will do is “raise awareness” that people are suicided. But I think most people pretty much know that already and choose to ignore it. Actually, an anti-suicide pact may even make you all more likely to be suicided. What a powerful “tip their hand” that would be!

    Please abandon this idea, I enjoy these sites too much!

    Besides, I reckon nobody can do anything to you that you haven’t already done to yourself. And death is nothing to fear [he says as he checks over his shoulder].
