If I was an inventor…

If I was an inventor, I’d create an electric fan that blew in lazy gusts, rather than one continuous stream. If a fan like this already exists, I’m unaware of it. And I’m not talking about oscillating fans here. While those give you a bit more variety than a standard box-type fan, they are still not as good as the wind. The great thing about wind is that it has unexpected high and low points. All of a sudden, the paper on your desk get blown off. The next minute, it’s just a slight breeze wafting through your window. I guess, really, if that’s what you’re after the ideal thing is just to open the window and hope for the best.

Anyway, that’s what I would invent. That and a light for the refrigerator that gets gradually lighter the longer the door is open. This way, if you open the fridge in the middle of the night, your eyes have time to adjust.

Oh what I wouldn’t do for a breeze in airconditionerless Seattle about now.
