Hippy Infiltration

Lately, I’ve been getting more and more interested in the hippies and drug culture of the 60’s and 70’s - plus the New Age movement which they spawned. Specifically, my ears having been perking up more and more to the possibility that there was more going on than there seemed. I keep coming across oblique references to various big name figures in these movements being linked to CIA and other such government-type shit. Once I have some free time to do a proper job, I’m going to start cataloguing and connecting some dots with some of these names - if only to establish a pattern, rather than to draw any concrete conclusions at this point. What have you guys heard on this topic? The FBI’s COINTELPRO infiltration of the anti-war movement seems to be the most “credible” place to start, but I’d like to go much deeper than that. Does anybody have any other good trails to follow? Some ones I’ve seen lately (off the top of my head) that bear looking into: Charles Manson, Tim Leary, Urantia, Process Church, Scientology, Esalen, “est”, Anton LaVey, the Council of Nine, Gene Roddenberry, Uri Geller, Andrija Puharich, Jim Jones, the Grateful Dead, the Beach Boys, the Beatles… really, there are a million possibilities. If we throw them all up in the air together, something’s gotta happen. I’m also looking at stuff about the medical and psychological testing the government did with LSD, various mind control stuff, prison experiments, political assassinations, etc. Let’s try and start with the hippies, drugs and the New Age stuff, and then move out from there. Anybody has any good ideas or leads (plus links), I’d love to hear all about them…

A really good introduction to all of the madness (occult and otherwise) of the time is Gary Lachman’s book TURN OFF YOUR MIND. You might find some good stuff in there. I think Disinfo is publishing it currently.

Electric Kool Aid Acid Test describes where lsd, DMT, and some other drugs got their start as “illicit” psychedelics. Lots of stuff on the Stanford Research Institute. Lots of info came out after Clinton declassified radiation experiment data, since most experiments into psychochemistry and other biochemistry used some kind of radioactive tracer. Many of the “gurus” may have been counterintelligence agents and political provocateurs. When you consider that the Operation Northwoods plan was conceived during that time, not much is really beyond the pale anymore. G. Gordon Liddy calling Deep Throat unethical means the world is officially on its head, spinning, and drilling towards China.

Also David Black’s “Acid - The Secret History of LSD” is quite good. Has a lot of information on the CIA:s distribution of acid thru the Brotherhood of Eternal Love. Not to mention Jon Ronson’s “The Men Who Stare at Goats” which has a lot of unique info on MK-ULTRA and especially on the connection between the New Age-movement and the CIA.

Yeah, I almost forgot, there’s this book long out out of print that’s supposed to be really good, called “Mindfuckers - A Source Book on the Rise of Acid Fascism in America” by David Felton. It’s been ridiculously expensive ($100) the few times I’ve seen it on sale, but with a little luck some library nearby might have it.

I find that this would be a really good time for you to actually do some personal investigating - Pittsburgh might not be a hot bed for the movement of that time but I guarantee you that you can find some old “hippies” in run down bars. Whether or not they knew any deep info about the topic of the underbelly of the era is irrelevant I think but fleshing out your own theories with personal hippy stories - or even presenting them to other people - or just being able to actually talk to people in a reporting sense would be a skill that I think you should, and I think you want to attain. This would be a nice topic for which to start trying to attain it.

yeah thats not a bad idea actually bret. i do want to get more into knowing peoples personal stories. its always really weird and fun and creepy to talk to people about this stuff in person

Interesting you mention the Process Church, there is a fascinating true crime book by investigative journalist Maury Terry called The Ultimate Evil that proves, pretty conclusively in my view, that this group was responsible for the occultic Son of Sam murder spree in NYC, and that this was willfully not investigated. There are all sorts of threads to this story, connections to Hollywood, high-level drug dealing, the U.S. Army, apparent corruption in law enforcement, an endless string of mysterious deaths… and, a lone patsy who survived an in-prison assassination attempt and has now confirmed the story of a greater conspiracy (the true leaders of the murder cult were a pair of brothers whose father was named Sam, hence the name that Berkowitz took for himself when he was selected as the fall guy).

You may also want to take a look at SEX AND ROCKETS: THE OCCULT WORLD OF JACK PARSONS. It’s got rockets. It’s got sex magic. It’s got L. Rob Hubbard, pre-Scientology. It’s got mysterious deaths and explosions.

Parsons even has a crater on the dark side of the moon named after him.

It’s sort of pre-hippie, but very interesting nonetheless. And possibly very relevant in terms of setting the stage for the hippie-era ‘Space Age’.

Years ago, the L.A. Weekly did a story about Cary Grant and his LSD treatments that skirted these territories slightly. Also, google the name Dr. Oscar Janiger, a pioneer in LSD research and also the late personal physician of “Bill”, whom I mentioned in an e-mail.

  11. james Says:

sorry, I meant “psychiatrist” not “physician”

Don’t leave out Nixon’s war on drugs. Although it wasn’t until the 70’s, I would consider that classic photo of Elvis and Nixon shaking hands a sort of penultimate moment in all of this, sort of a seal commemorating the successful co-opting of the revolution.

    albion! nugget of gold!

i read somewhere that the term “New Age” was coined by kissinger.

I think your use of the phrase “the New age movement which they spawned” is particularly apt. the whole thing totally creeps me out.

in case you ever get a chance to get back to all this…preston nichols.

Carved into the annals of rock ‘n roll history is an enigmatic and legendary sound engineer who was affectionately known in the music industry as “Little Buddha” Loved by musicians and producers for his mysterious and uncanny knack to produce hit after hit record, Little Buddha’s identity has remained a virtual secret until now as Preston Nichols comes forward and reveals his hidden role in the recording industry where he worked as an expert sound engineer and recorded hundreds of hit records during the Golden Era of rock ‘n roll.

Already famous for his involvement in time experiments known as the Montauk Project and heralded as one of the few people in the world who understand the true physics of time, Preston Nichols explains how subliminals and mind control were used to influence the masses who listened to rock ‘n roll.

Having created a Mecca for talented musicians, Preston soon found himself surrounded by and interfacing with the likes of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, and many more such popular acts. For the first time, Preston reveals his employment at Brookhaven Labs and how his connections in the music industry were used for mind control and manipulation of the masses.

here is an interview with nichols about the montauk project:

    http://www.whale.to/b/cameron1.html

i think he has been accused of being a disinformationist and/or hoaxer because if he has all this hot inside dirt why haven’t they whacked him?

  16. Occult Investigator Says:

WHAT THE FUCK! thats just unbelieveable as hell. have you seen this guy talk on video? i only did once many years ago, and he was insane. in highschool i read that montauk project book and we even mounted a trip out to the airforce base. but thats a story for another day. anyway, thats a great possible connecting lead. thanks!

  17. albion Says:

well i wish i could say it was reassuring that he’s insane. i thought the phil spector connection was interesting too, have you seen the latest headlines on him? i don’t think he’s well either.
