i think human is a collection of experiences, from bodily sensations to precognition to to astral projection to dreams.. the simple process of imagining ourself and being aware of ourself while doing things suggests a duality.........a robot and a witness. though to many this is merely an exercise,we catch ourselves looking at the most surprising of moments.
i have been involved in soccer games where for extended periods have been running on autopilot, performing at the very peak of my athletic ability and having no sensation other than in reference. i almost don`t believe it was me doing what i did.i don`t think that the body is antiquated, but i have thought that to have an animal body and a spiritual consciousness in an odd arrangement. certainly unique on the planet.
engineered species?

the whole notion that the flesh is requisite becomes horribly antiquated and perpetuates a very shallow point of view.

I don't so much care defining what "human" is, but I just can't get past this point - saying that the body is antiquated. It grates on my nerves so much

1) i felt that if you modify a human sufficiently he ceases to be one spiritually, etc. and 2) a meld of sufficiently advanced technology with humans would destroy the humans.

Hey alistair,

I, too, have contemplated both of these points, and it's actually where I started out with my thinking. In no way to I mean to say that I am right and you're wrong, but where I am at now is that my experience and knowledge have shifted my perspective towards the idea that consciousness itself is not relative to the manifest "body" or "shell" upon which it anchors itself. For consciousness to interact within space-time, within its own manifested maya, something (I am not going to debate what) sets down an electromagnetic architecture for the body to inhabit space-time. It's all energy, for lack of better terms. There were some great studies done on electromagnetic footprints of prenatal organisms, from plants to animals, where the images produced of these forces — invisible to the human eye, obviously, but captured via special recording devices — showed that the adult format of the organism was already in place around the foetus or the plant seed.

The matter that comes to incorporate itself into the body of the plant or animal, or whatever, was already structured. In essence, the rest is just in the details. Of course, this will can raise the debate about which is illusory: free will vs reality… but I ain't going there in this thread. What we consider human is a familiar pattern of consciousnesses, all threaded together by something phenomenology refers to as an inter-subjective matrix of illusory experience. We are a tapestry of perspectives.

If you work with shifting the location of consciousness around, you'll find that it is not isolated to the frontal lobe of the brain. And the more experience you garner with shifting your point of entry or awareness into this manifest space-time, the more you'll be able to tug away from actually being "attached" to this electromagentic field that surrounds you, which is in fact the anchor between your consciousness and what you think is your body.

Once you plop yourself outside of your body, the whole notion that the flesh is requisite becomes horribly antiquated and perpetuates a very shallow point of view. That we could integrate our memories with the internet, download and upload the patterns that make up memory, emotional responses, and now that they've developed tools to integrate computers with the optic interpreters in the brain for blind people, a whole new age of information hierarchy and social orders will bear fruition.

I ask you this, and think before you answer: What is human?

future hi is www.futurehi.net a blog where i went some months ago for similar discourse as i find here. i discussed and disagreed with thier point of view regarding an evolution of human conciousness through technology on two points. 1) i felt that if you modify a human sufficiently he ceases to be one spiritually, etc. and 2) a meld of sufficiently advanced technology with humans would destroy the humans.
i found the idealogical ground there a little to hi(gh) and because i was irritating some of the members i stopped posting. they got upset because i pointed out that technology,or something else entirely, has the potential to rip us apart and put us back together in a nanosecond just because it exists. terence mckenna described it as the eschaton. some of his audio files are available on the future hi site also. i was shocked that the people there didn`t hear him talking about it. or maybe thier ears heard something different?
the nanotechnological grey goo is the residue left after nanobots assimilate everything on the planet...........
and the transhumanists want it to be a new spitiual evolution of man.
and as for hot cyborg chicks....i think they were trying to avoid the trekkies.

Dude, it's all models. I think that's what we're after here. Just gotta build the right one that works for you and that somehow constantly reminds you its only a model. That's what gnosticism does for me. But I wouldn't call myself a "gnostic", anymore than I would a Christian or an anarchist or a magickian or anything. I'm just a dude.

and the transhumanists(well, the ones at future hi at least) have no sense of humour.
but can you explain the tit licking thing? i am embarassed to say i think i missed something.

I am not sure what 'future hi' is, but as far as transhumanism goes: a) cyborg chicks are always hawt, seriously; and b) there is a natural progression or consciousness to expand itself to encompass larger and faster social hierarchies, especially as of recently. Good ol' Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, with his concept of the noosphere, kinda got me into it. At first I didn't care too much, but without going into some long rant about the upsies and downsies of the so-called transhumanism movement, it just seems — to me — to be the most obvious and apparent way things will go over the next while. I am not sure how it can be 'dead' as it's only just beginning. No need to debate it, I suppose, it's just my opinion. And what do I know.

As for tit licking, it's just as good as saying it's the "cat's ass." It's going after the teet for something sweet, which in this case seems to be the whole Gnostic thing. Don't get me wrong, I admire Gnosticism, but like it's been pointed out here, it's just a model. And, also, like I've pointed out before, and this is just me, of course… I like the cocaine and hookers model. But it's not for everyone.

(licks tit and wonders what to do next)

Cocaine and hookers, yo. Cocaine and hookers.

As far as Gnosticism goes, it's a dead system, just as is any Traditional movement, Hermeticism, et al. I am all about the present, and even though I don't much play them, I am bombarded by the Xbox and PrayStation.

This leads me to put my hard-earned faith into transhumanism.

Plus, I like cyborgs. They're fucking cool.

So, in the meantime as I shove my cell phone up my ass and wait for God to call, there's really only three things for me to do: a) Pursue my design work and theory; b) Continue to practise and teach contemporary occultism to hot chicks at the U of A; and c)…

… Cocaine and hookers.

monstrous in that we tend to make maps to describe maps of maps, ad infinitum. the question you`ve always been asking, i believe, is what is the ground underneath all of the effects we keep observing. the inquiries and answers become more and more convoluted until a select few can keep up. then you have the beginings of a cult whereby others ask you what you mean. i`m not suggesting this is your intent. i believe in your sincere search for insight. the occult is, by definition, unseen. when you begin to see the paridigm shifts to the next layer of occult. it keeps us forever chasing the next thing.
in rational terms the diagram shows the mainstream vs. the occult aspects of all religions. each religion has a higher aspect that tends to be mystical and spiritual as opposed to dogmatic. the sad thing about it is that most ministers and priests are fully aware of the inner ring of the above diagram and choose to suppress it.
if anything it is our job to shed light on the inner ring. can we build a new network of churches teaching this? i plan on it as part of my work.
