Rockefellers Funded Terence McKenna?
I have to admit that a lot of my conspiracy theories are being turned inside out lately. Which I think is good, because it means a lot of my base assumptions are being put through the ringer. Who knows what the hell will come out the other side though! Recently I found out that the Rockefellers had a significant hand in promoting the Abstract Expressionist movement in the 50’s, somehow connected to the CIA and the war on Communism.
Here’s a more recent tidbit to chew on. Apparently one Laurence Rockefeller was (or may still be) giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Green Earth Foundation. One website says (this source seems to be repeated all over the web):
Still on the ecology front, Laurence Rockefeller also funds the Green Earth Foundation headed by Terence McKenna. McKenna scouts the globe collecting psychoactive plants, which he is permitted to cultivate in Hawaii. One of McKenna’s theories is that psychoactive substances used by native cultures in religious ceremonies induce telepathic links with alien cultures. He believes the patriarchal “dominator” cultures of the past few thousand years have failed us and the earth, and calls for an “archaic revival”, which requires a return to humanity’s last “sane” moment 15,000 years ago on the plains of Africa “rocked in the cradle of the great horned mushroom goddess.”
Also consider the statements above in light of the words of Maurice Strong, co-chairman of the Council of the World Economic Forum (among other things) who started his career under David Rockefeller’s wing. Strong outlines a “hypothetical” meeting of the World Economic Forum:
What if a small group of these word leaders were to conclude that the principle risk to the earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? And if the world is to survive, those rich countries would have to sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment. Will they do it? Will the rich countries agree to reduce their impact on the environment? Will they agree to save the earth?
The group’s conclusion is “no.” The rich countries won’t do it. They won’t change. So, in order to save the planet, the group decides: isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?
So are certain factions of the elite really interested in implementing McKenna’s “archaic revival”? This makes McKenna’s comments on Art Bell rather more interesting:
BELL: Would you care to comment on why the government has not yet assassinated you?
MCKENNA: Me? Well, maybe they’re hoping somebody will do the job for them. I don’t know, I think maybe the government tolerates a certain level of dissent almost as a fall-back position … in other words, you never quite throw away the small pox virus, just in case you might need it … I can imagine the culture crisis getting so crazy that the people at the top will have to turn to their cohorts and say, “Call in McKenna and his friends” …
Did they in fact do just that, like they seem to have done with Leary and others before him? What’s really going on here? What’s next - are these guys gonna hire Ran Prieur?

I’ve always had the impression that Laurence Rockefeller really didn’t go along with the “new world order” kind of stuff the rest of his family was involved in, and his funding of people like McKenna and John Mack was his way of working against it, of trying to promote something different.

Yeah I need to look into him more. He seems like a wildcard. But in another sense, it seems to fit right in. While Strong made the statements above, he’s been quietly building a community nestled securely in the mountains, complete with UFO’s and a center for spiritual advancement. You know the whole 2/3 population slash that people are always saying the NWO is after? Everybody assumes it’s going to be some kind of police state once that happens. But what if they are actually thinking that a return to quasi-primitive tribalism is the best, most sustainable thing? More likely it would be a combination of that with weird police state antics. The thing I’m starting to realize is that there must be factions of government/elites who see the same problems and solutions that we do. It can’t just be all evil-overlord & reptilian-sex-abuse mayhem. I mean, that’s just so cartoony in a way.

The whole Illuminati thing, about how there is some kind of unified group with a singular agenda behind everything, has always struck me as being strange. How could powerful, ambitious, Machiavellian types like this possibly resist the temptation to intrigue against each other? How could they not break up into factions of competing egos, with all the rivalries and shell games and personal agendas that this kind of thing would inevitably entail? The Nazi example is instructive here… all the famous names we’ve heard about, the Himmlers, the Gorings, the Bormanns, they all hated each other, they all set up their own private little fiefdoms which competed with each other fiercely for wealth, power, and the Fuhrer’s patronage. Nazi Germany was not a unified, cold-bloodedly efficient police state pursuing a single agenda, it was actually sloppy, wasteful, and IN-efficient, a loose amalgamation of contradiction and overlapping bureaucracies. As such, it’s defeat was inevitable.
Tangentially, this kind of thing is why, in science fiction terms, I’ve never been able to buy into the whole ‘Independence Day, Klingon Empire, War of the Worlds’ kinds of scenarios. I believe any species that somehow found a way to traverse the vast distances of space would have to be peaceful, because a war-like, would-be ruthless conquerer type of species would never be able to stop fighting with each other long enough to put together the kind of large-scale cooperative venture that would be necessary to actually take your technology and scientific understanding to that kind of level.

Unless the aliens method of transport wasn’t technological at all, of course… but otherwise I completely agree about factions within factions. I guess I just never considered the possibility that some of them might be sort of like me - at least on some level.

well the truth is, nobody wants to think of themself as the bad guy. even if your plans involve the reduction of 2/3 of the population, you’ll need to convince yourself it’s for the best, and life will be better on the other end.
I think the fact that the rockefellers are tied up intimately with creepy flakes like the lucis trust only proves either their profound cynicism, or their utter lack of critical thinking skills.
it reminds me of the way the neocons base their politics on the idea of the
‘noble lie’ which will unify the people. it may well be that the noble lies of the future will be pilfered from the heartfelt legacy of a wonderfull person like terrence mckenna, god rest his soul.
although, there may not be that much difference in the underlying epistemic assumptions of either side. both subscribe to a quirky kind of eschatology, rooted in the myth of ‘progress’. on the one hand the rockefellers seem to traffic in one world government with ascended masters and space brothers on the periphery, while terrence was all about the gain supermind, machine elves and the acceleration into hyperspace.
the only diffence is in genuine imagination.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I thought I had it all figured out (oh yeah, I’ll go live in the mountains, be free to grow my own food, build my flying machine, hack away to my heart’s content), but then the demons had to speak up: “that’s just what they WANT you to do!”
And if it is, is that a bad thing? Sure, I’m being manipulated. At least I’m not being exterminated by some engineered plague. They get their way, in a way that’s nice for me. Are THEY still evil? So we all end up as techno-tribes (at least those of us who grew up on the internet), how would they benefit? Does something come after that?
Anyway, its always cool when someone else tunes into the same signal.

i also gotta add, that no matter whoever funded McKenna, that man was one of the most brilliant creatures ive ever heard speak english.

oh absolutely. hes a damned genius and did an enormous amount to mentally liberate other people. which leads me to:
I guess that’s what I’m starting to really wonder. What if instead of all of us being so damned counter-cultural, we’re just being herded right into the mindspace that they want us to be in? is that bad? what if i actually agree with it and came to that conclusion on my own? is there even such a thing as coming to a conclusion on my own?

macluhan said that we are retibalising through the advances in media. the fragmented, literate, vigorous individual cannot sustain against the pull of the network of blackberries and laptops constantly bringing information at a distance, telling him what the outer edge of the hunting party is seeing while he does his tasks at this end.it is a process. no pain. no arguements. it doesn`t mean we`ll all be in grass skirts either. unless we choose. and manipulation is far superior to destruction. in my opinion, manipulation is the highest form of human behavior. we have apposable thumbs and also apposable brains. the stress of doing it alone is over, for the most part, and we can relax and share.
