i&#039;ve come to the conclusion that philip acts as a sort of mnemonic semiotic &#039;glossary&#039; of gnosticism.  each saying seems to be providing a sort of definition for a gnostic concept.  that&#039;s why it&#039;s so bigf on words and their meanings; philip is basically saying, &#039;okay, here are the words with which you&#039;re familiar, and here&#039;s what they mean and why they&#039;re important.&#039;  </description>
