Elizabeth Bathory Movie

I just happened across an independent movie that is coming out called “Eternal” which seems to be about the legend of Countess Elizabeth (Erzsebet) Bathory. Who knows how good it will be; the website is your typical poorly put together movie website. The plot synopsis seems to revolve around a modern day reincarnation of the so-called Blood Countess. If you’re not familiar with the legends surrounding Bathory, it’s definitely worth looking into. By varying accounts, she was a noblewoman who kidnapped, tortured, murdered and bathed in the blood of anywhere between 20 and 2000 young women. She’s the basis for much of modern vampire lore, though she’s not mentioned anywhere near as frequently as Vlad Tepes (Dracula). Anyway, the best online source of information I’ve seen about Countess Bathory is the Crime Library profile of her. I don’t know if the movie will be, but the details of her alleged exploits are worth checking out (if you’re into vampires, lesbianism and occult murder, that is).

I remember reading about Bathory a long time ago when I was doing research into European vampire legends and whatnot. She basically thought that by bathing in these young chicas blood that she’d stay looking young and beautiful. She probably didn’t do anything like what I saw in that movie trailer, except for bathing in blood. I don’t think she seduced women, and probably had droogs to do the uh… dirty work.

The movie has very few interesting plotlines, but the visuals are nice. It’s mostly a badly acted movie about a murder using the Countess’s story as a backdrop. There’s some lesbian sex, so I guess that gets fans.

Really, it’s disappointing if you want to find out new stuff about the story, and it’s even more disappointing if you are knowledgeable about it. It was filmed in french and the dubbing sucks. If you must see it, try to look for a subtitled version.

Oh, and it came out last year.

Word, yeah I thought it looked kind of stupid, but what you gonna do…
