Skeptic’s Are Idiots
Actually, I really like skepticism. But I prefer the philosophical kind to the scientific kind. Wikipedia has a fantastic quote from Skeptic magazine which shows exactly how scientific skeptics shoot themselves in the foot. (Keep your eye on the last line)
What does it mean to be a skeptic? Some people believe that skepticism is rejection of new ideas, or worse, they confuse skeptic with cynic and think that skeptics are a bunch of grumpy curmudgeons unwilling to accept any claim that challenges the status quo. This is wrong. Skepticism is a provisional approach to claims. It is the application of reason to any and all ideas—no sacred cows allowed.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Does this crack anybody else up besides me? They say “no sacred cows allowed” but right before that they put their one sacred cow up on a gigantic pedestal for all to see: REASON! That to me is exactly the difference between scientific skeptics and philosophical (or “real”) skeptics: one stops at reason, and the other slays reason.

i begin my seminars with the instruction to choose good feelings for no reason. i call reason an hallucination word because it puts people into a trance when they read or hear it.

That’s exactly the point I’m trying to make to JK in the comments to this post.

Are you familiar with zeteticism? I’m guessing yes, since it’s linked from the Wikipedia page on Pyrrhonism, but if not you should check it out.
