An Agreement With God

Speaking of meditative imagery, I saw this yesterday morning while using the John the Baptist/Isaiah mantra “Make ready the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight!” while concentrating on the idea of beginnings, finding the right path, and finding a teacher.

I was awake, and my eyes were closed when I suddenly found myself in a darkened room, like some secret inner sanctum that Indiana Jones would find in a hidden temple. This rock stood on a pedestal in the center of the chamber, and though the room was darkened, it was illuminated by itself somehow. I sensed a presence in the room besides myself. When I was shown this carved rock, I understood it to be an agreement between me and God. It was carved with all kinds of symbols and letters, some of which were in English, most of which looked like cuneiform. The agreement, as I understood it, was about me finding my way. That if I’m really going to do it and have a go at whatever it is, I have to accept wholeheartedly and promise to follow the parameters of the deal as laid out in this block. Relates very much to the Gurdjieff quote I found the other day:

Every seeker dreams of a guide who knows, dreams about him but seldom asks himself objectively and sincerely–is he worthy of being guided? Is he ready to follow the way?

I’m not sure at the time if I accepted this agreement or if I already had, or if I was being shown it for future reference. In any case, I’ve been very surprised to have such success lately with meditation after years of not having much of anything, and not being able to stick with it.

have you ever considered programming yourself prior to meditation for a specific answer?

That’s more or less what I was aiming for with this, and this was the response.

i remember in art class as a kid of 7or 8 drawing an image of a knight in chainmail kneeling in front of an altar. he/i was wearing an overshirt of white silk with the red cross of st.george on the front. i never finished the drawing but the image has persisted with me to this day. i can even feel the cool, damp air of the chapel as a kneel. the image came to me as i sat in the classroom because the teacher told us to draw the first thing that came to mine.
