Fantastic Planet Update
Jeremy has asked me to update everybody on the situation with his website, Fantastic Planet, so here it is direct from the horse’s mouth:
So it really sucks that I can’t edit or even view fantastic planet at the moment. The automated domain renewal crapped out this time around, and it had to be done manually. Although it’s apparently visible to various individuals, and can even be commented upon, I’m unable to do so myself, as the local servers with which I access the internet haven’t yet refreshed the info. If all goes well, I’ll be back to posting later today, or tomorrow.
Of course, this is absolutely nothing compared to what’s going on down on the Gulf Coast at the moment. I have a few thoughts on that which I’ll post as soon as possible, but I’ve asked Tim to grant me the privilege of a little soapbox space because I want to mention something that’s been eating at me since I had a dream about it last night.
Domestic animals have it pretty shitty in disaster situations. Dogs and cats can’t help themselves, and are often overlooked when human lives are on the line. Thankfully, a couple of relief agencies are focusing on these stranded dogs and cats, and they need some fundage to help save puppies and kittens.
As such, I’ve decided to donate 100% of the profits from the sale of “Running Towards the Bomb” to the Humane Society’s Disaster Relief fund, which funds animal search and rescue operations in hurricane-damaged areas, and the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who have taken in all of the Louisiana SPCA’s strays & sheleter dogs.
This isn’t some crazy attempt to sell more books– if you’d prefer, you can donate to these folks directly instead of spending your money on book. I don’t really need it, but these displaced animals do:

Oh, just in case you didn’t know, Jeremy used to work in some animal shelter or Humane Society or something, which is why he’s got this on his mind. That and loving animals, I suppose.
