The Guardian has the latest about the five newest saints which Pope Benedict XVI is naming. I’ve personally not heard of any of them, but they are:
- Josef Bilczewski, the Polish archbishop of Lviv, Ukraine
- Rev. Zygmunt Gorazdowski, founder of the Congregation for the Sisters of St. Joseph
- Rev. Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga, a Jesuit from Chile
- Felice da Nicosia, an Italian lay brother from the 1700’s
- Rev. Gaetano Cantanoso, founder of another religious order
On top of that, there are 17 others who will be beatified in a ceremony next month. There’s no word on the situation with Pope John Paul II, and whether he’s still on the fast track to sainthood (or martyrdom).

So, these are just regular dead people until the Vatican decrees them special and completes the ceremony? I guess saints-to-be don’t yet answer prayer or intercede. Of course not. God would not hear their intercession until the Vatican approves sainthood.
Hehe. Somebody sounds angry!
more gamerules of the vatican technocracy.
What’s with all these makings of saints? Is it normal for a new pope to step in and make a few new saints?
