This is a great quote:
You never change the existing reality by fighting it. Instead, create a new model that makes the old one obsolete.
That’s from Buckminster Fuller.

i think that`s what gnosic teaching is all about. building new models of reality. nlp lays out some pretty precise ways to do just that by adjusting the sub-modalities( the things we see, hear, feel, taste and smell.) in our meditation, spells, etc. the nlp field is full of ways to play with the sub-modalities and new stuff is figured out every day.
when we change the sub-modalities in our visualisations we change our response to the images. these feelings are what drive our reality. we either feel like it of we don`t. it`s pretty clear cut. change how you feel, change your world.
“The key to every man is his thought. Sturdy and defying though he look, he has a helm which he obeys, which is the idea after which all his facts are classified. He can only be reformed by showing him a new idea which commands his own.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
