Camp Greyhound Draws Complaints

I guess it just doesn’t fit into their brand image:

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Reuters) - Greyhound Bus Lines complained to Louisiana’s prisons department to stop referring to a temporary New Orleans jail, that was once its bus station, as Camp Greyhound, a prisons official said on Monday.

The Greyhound bus station in New Orleans was converted into a makeshift jail by police trying to restore law and order in a city rife with crime and lawlessness in the days after Hurricane Katrina hit.

Instead, they’ll start calling it Angola South, after the maximum security Angola prison, which is now housing some of its prisoners at Camp Greyhound. Really though, as a longtime veteran of Greyhound Buses, I have to say I can’t think of a much more fitting image than a detainment camp for their bus stations. This is only bringing out the essence of Greyhound, if you ask me.

UPDATE!

I just happened across a “corrected” version of this same article, where it looks like they forgot to take out the editor’s notes. At the top of the article says “Please read in lead … asked … instead of … complained to … ” In other words, somebody probably realized that Greyhound “complaining” probably made them sound bad and humorless. Makes me wonder how many news items are “corrected” in this manner before we ever see them.
