Just before waking up, I had a dream that was a sort of combination between the Da Vinci Code, and the Lord of the Rings. The LOTR references definitely come from my watching part of the Two Towers on television the other night.
In this dream I was basically a hobbit and I had a group of companions who I was travelling with. But our task didn’t involve the Ring of Power. Instead it had to do with finding some artifact used by Jesus, a sort of Holy Grail stand-in. In the dream, we were following a map and/or series of clues which had been left me by my grandfather who had also quested after this object. Aside from the sheer adventure of it, we wanted to retrieve this item so that we could “heal the land” or something along those lines. Like in LOTR, it was a time of great war and upheaval.
The main part I remember was when we arrived at a religious compound or a sort of monastery in the hills. It was inhabited by a group of notable warrior monks, who guarded the place. I remember sneaking into the compound with my companions, and making our way down into this cave. At the bottom of it was a vault built into the rocks, which we pried open and removed the treasure from inside. Whatever it was was in a metal box.
Then we formulated a plan to get out of there though, as we knew the monks would spot us and attack us to protect this item. We set up a diversion where most of our group went off in one direction, pretending to carry the object while I snuck around with it by myself and made my escape out into open country.
It worked. I escaped, but I don’t know what happend to my companions. So I was left to continue alone carrying this increasingly heavy box. Sometimes it seemed to be made of stone, and other times metal. I had to be careful to keep in between two armies which were on the march. One was wearing white armor and regalia, and belonged to the monastery, and the other black and belonged (presumably) to the Dark Lord. I met a girl on the road who was supposed to be from Ireland and she traveled with me a ways. I kept hidden from her what I was carrying though. At some point, I opened the box or it’s exterior crumbled away, and I saw what was inside: petrified pieces of flat pita-style bread which I assumed were from the last supper. I dropped one accidentally, thinking it was just a stone. By the time I realized what it was and went back to retrieve it, somehow all these other pieces of bread had appeared, almost like they’d grown out of it. I was in a city at this point, and I knew there were imperial guards watching though, so I decided to leave the bread for the beggars and be on my way.

Now why don’t I have dreams like that!? Great site, Tim!
I had a dream two nights ago in which an angel spoke to me and said, “You’d expect that the pious aspect of life would consist in being virtuous, but that is wrong. The pious aspect reveals itself in the sin. It is murder.” The revelation was so startling that I immediately woke up. I’m not quite sure what to make of it, but I think it lends itself to an antinomian interpretation.
Antinomianism definitely. But perhaps a more concrete road to understanding what that means is the Jungian shadow, and integrating the elements of oneself that are being denied…
