Pop Occulture To Investigate Big Apple!

NEW YORK, Pop Occulture creator Tim Boucher announced today his upcoming relocation to New York City. As a major nexus of occultural activity, NYC promises to fuel crazy new stories, research and discussions – all brought to you courtesy of Pop Occulture.

Pop Occulture is an increasingly popular research and conversation forum, with nearly 3,000 visitors a day, exploring the far fringes of pop culture, religion and philosophy. Once established in New York, Boucher has plans to expand Pop Occulture into an independent publishing company, complete with an exciting offering of books, media and events.

Boucher is hoping to make the move on or around November 1st, 2005 – the Day of the Dead. The roots of this festival stretch back to pre-Christian Europe, where Celtic peoples celebrated it as Samhain. About this holiday Wikipedia explains: “According to Irish mythology, during that night the great shield of Scathach was lowered, allowing the barriers between the worlds to fade and the forces of chaos to invade the realms of order, the material world conjoining with the world of the dead. At this time the spirits of the dead and those yet to be born walked amongst the living.”

To make the most of this opportunity, Pop Occulture is issuing a broad call for information and assistance. Boucher has compiled a list with a number of ways fans can help out:

  1. Have you heard of any good Pop Occulture-worthy stories, rumors and weird happenings in the Big Apple? Send them my way, and I’ll put them on my list of things to investigate.
  2. Do you know anyone I should talk to or meet in New York’s occult, paranormal, religious, or counter-cultural communities? I’m looking to build up a solid network of useful contacts and would really appreciate any and all introductions.
  3. Do you have a hot lead on an employment opportunity I might be a good match for? I’d love an occulture-related job, but could also excel in many other areas. (See professional section for more details).
  4. Do you know of a good cheap apartment opportunity? Low cost housing referrals would be a huge help. My rent limit is probably $650, which will require me to get a roomate, I know.
  5. If you enjoy my work and would like to see it continue and expand into new areas, please consider making a donation to help defray my moving expenses. Any and all amounts gladly accepted via Paypal.

Thanks for everyone’s insight and support which has brought me this far already. I really appreciate it. Keep me in your thoughts, prayers and magick spells as I prepare to embark on this new adventure! Please contact me with any tips and information via this contact form.

Please pass this info along to anybody else who might be able to help. Thanks a ton!

there’s a great bar called sophies down in the avenues somewhere - 2nd & B maybe? Awesome jukebox, i alwsy run into people there I hadn’t seen in years and never expected to see again

there’s a bar called Nowhere on 14th between 1st and A…actually, i’ve never been there, but will go soon. The name is just too good. Like, if you decide to get together with somebody and they ask, “Where should we meet?”, you could say, “Meet me Nowhere.”

There are a few botanicas in Brooklyn you should check out. Also, the Turkish Sufi’s. And the Persian Sufi’s. I can give you contact numbers if you want them…What else? Willem Nyland’s Work group (he’s a now long-dead Gurdjieff disciple; his disciples run a group on Tuesday nights). The Ruhani-Kirpal Satsang (the Radhasoami lineage Paul Twitchell cribbed Eckankar from…kind of cult-y, but maybe worth checking out once just to see if some of the nice older disciples will chat you up and give you a few free books).

I second the suggestion of the magic store on 9th and 1st. Also, Cleopatra’s Needle. (I know someone who’s both taken and made offerings there.)

    Umm…that’s good for now.

  6. N.M Says:

You can check out Joe Coleman’s Odditorium…

  7. Janice Says:

I’ve got a couple of good people in NYC..remind me when you get there and I’ll make the intros if you wish..

  8. rev max Says:

If you ever go into one of those grocery stores in brooklyn that doesn’t sell anything except for mustard and relish and has 8 inch thick bullet-proof glass, make sure to ask for the purple skunk!

No, just kidding, i have no idea if those are still around or not but if they are that would probably constitute asking for trouble

  9. JK Says:

Great. Now Seattle’s gonna get hit by a 9.0.

You had your chance Boucher. You had your chance.
