The Ghosts of Hurricane Katrina

San Francisco’s CBS5 has an article and news video about the ghostly goings-on in New Orleans, told from a first-hand perspective by the National Guard soldiers stationed there. Soldiers in this video describe seeing a little girl standing in a doorway where none should be, shadows moving of their own accord, and multiple copies of the Bible found opened to the same passage in the Book of Revelations.

Definitely worth checking out for those so inclined. Thanks Antaesthetic for sending me the link. Interestingly enough, I’m not seeing much of anything on Google when it comes to ghosts, New Orleans and Hurrican Katrina. I’m actually kind of surprised by this lack of content, but maybe it’s just too soon for people to be thinking about stuff like that. The one thing I did find was from a ghost-hunting site called Hollow Hill which reports (in part):

On a positive note, keep in mind that many studies show a direct relationship between fresh water and hauntings, including poltergeist phenomena. So, with the volume of water that has flooded New Orleans, expect a surge of hauntings for many months–and perhaps years–ahead.

Hm, I’m not really sure that’s such a positive thing, but oh well. Anybody with more stories or links about the ghosts of New Orleans, please add them into the comments below. Thanks!

Well, I found another one. This time from Google News into the Washington Post.

    Ghost Town

    Here’s an excerpt:

“[…] Even Barthelemy, a feet-on-the-ground sort who commandeered school buses to evacuate residents before Katrina struck, talks about the spirits. On the night before the storm, Barthelemy says quite seriously, a good friend of his walked home with a whole pack of ghosts. Barthelemy asked him if he was scared, and the man replied, “What they gonna do? The dead can’t hurt me.”

Lynell Williams, born and raised in Plaquemines Parish, felt a sense of foreboding around the same time. She says she saw two lines of ghosts–”bright people,” she noted, invoking a local colloquialism for whites–marching over the levee. The ghosts were getting out of Davant. That was all she needed to see. She left, too. […]”

    … Ghosts Evacuating? That’s… phenomenal.

Possibly I’m just cynical, but this…

multiple copies of the Bible found opened to the same passage in the Book of Revelations

…sounds like a crock. It’s a little bit TOO perfect for my liking.

  3. Tim Boucher Says:

Yeah, sounds totally phony-baloney, I agree. It’s a nice spooky touch though. That’s why I included it.

  4. Kilma Says:

so why won’t they give the chapter in revelations if it was opened so specifically. would be a better spooky touch if it matched. Are there things pertaining to katrina in revelations? well, something more direct than dire warnings of storms n shit.

  5. Tim Boucher Says:

Ooh, yeah, I meant to bring that up myself. Thanks! If they were open to the same passage - whether it was a hoax or what - I’d definitely like to know which passage it was. I haven’t looked at Revelations in a while though, so I’m not current on whether or not there’s anything that could be interpreted as matching.

  6. Texas girl Says:

I’ve been hearing about weird vibes affecting people on South Padre Island, Texas in the aftermath of the last two hurricanes. Ghosts and orbs have been captured by an acquaintace of mine in a photo taken by the shore. Are these possibly displaced souls who died suddenly and are lost? I’m interested to find out if other areas of the gulf are experiencing anything similar.

  7. El Juno Says:

According to the video clip, it was Revelations 10 and 11 that the bibles were supposed to be open to.

  8. Tim Boucher Says:

Oh cool, my connection broke before I got all the way through the video…
