Flying Mobula Rays

When I first saw the photos on this website, I couldn’t believe they were real. But apparently they are. There’s a type of ray that lives in the Sea of Cortez (the body of water between Baja California and Mexico) known for it’s ability to fly through the air!

Okay, they don’t really fly, they sort of jump or propel themselves out of the water for short distances, and they are so weird-looking while they do it that it’s simply not to be missed! There is also a really magificent aerial photo of a huge school of these guys swimming along. Absolutely wild stuff - especially in light of my recent art featuring a much more sinister manta ray-type image.
