Pop Occulture Forum!

It took me most of the day to get it just how I wanted it, but I’d like to formally announce a brand new forum/bulletin board system for you to use to discuss occulture-related issues: The Pop Occulture Forum (POF for short).

It runs using PunBB, which was very easy to set up and simple to tweak. Here’s the introductory bit with guidelines, etc, and you can register here. Registration requires email validation. You get sent a random password from “POF Mailer”, which you can then use to login and change your password, update your profile and start posting.

I’ve organized the forum into what I think are some pretty good and hopefully useful categories. If we need to change or add some over time, that’s cool. They are:

  1. General Discussion
  2. Apocalypse & Prophecy
  3. Celebrities & Pop Culture
  4. Consciousness
  5. Conspiracy Theory
  6. Cults, Sects, Religions
  7. Dark Side
  8. Gnostic Thought
  9. Health & Ecology
  10. History
  11. Indigenous & Shamanic Traditions
  12. Monsters & Entities
  13. Occult & Magick
  14. Weird Science

There’s also two categories that are for links and media recommendations. What else? I hope that’s everything. If you have trouble or think of something I missed, just give me a shout! Otherwise, POF is now open for business, so get posting kids! (And you thought you had trouble keeping up with new items on my website already! Ha!)

Just for the record, for anybody who tries to install PunBB - also download a mod for it called Easy BBCode

    http://forums.punbb.org/viewtopic.php?id=6217&action=new

It allows you to incorporate BBCode buttons above your posts, so people can just highlight and click to apply simple text styles to their posts

This looks great! I’m really impressed with the category breakdown. That’s not something that’s necessarily easy to do.

Thanks! I’m pretty happy with it too. I’m also hoping that it’s going to be diverse enough that no one group of people are going to necessarily dominate it, like happens with some other forums (the Rigorous Intuition one is a good example of that).

I’m really happy I did this actually. I’ve usually disliked the forum format in the past, but once you have a nice layout and categories, it becomes a lot better. And I’ve already had some really great ideas based on things people have posted too. Totally worthwhile.
