Craigslist & Al-Qaida
I found two stories that are pretty hilarious, especially when you put them side-by-side. One is from Wired and is about how Al-Qaida supposedly has been posting help-wanted ads:
Al-Qaida has put job advertisements on the internet asking for supporters to help put together its web statements and video montages, an Arabic newspaper reported.
The London-based Asharq al-Awsat said on its website this week that al-Qaida had “vacant positions” for video production and for editing statements, footage and international media coverage about militants in Iraq, the Palestinian territories, Chechnya and other conflict zones where militants are active.
The paper said the Global Islamic Media Front, an al-Qaida-linked, web-based organization, would “follow up with members interested in joining and contact them via e-mail.”
Speaking as somebody with a background in professional web development, that strikes me as a hilarious job interview and work situation. I wonder if they give all their employees free soda and snacks - or whatever terrorists eat and drink for a treat (the blood of infidels, presumably).
If this all sounds a little far-fetched, don’t worry - cause the Marines are doing it too. According to an article on CBS News Radio 880, the Marines on Long Island have taken to posting job ads on Craigslist in an effort to boost recruitment.
What would the world be like if we were allowed to choose sides based on who was offering a better employment package?

Did I ever tell you my idea for an Al-Qaida “Adopt a Highway”?
