We’ve been a big fan of the Nation of Islam’s UFO mythology for a long time here at Pop Occulture, which is why I was so excited to find this recent interview (Oct. 14) with Louis Farrakhan talking very candidly about his own abduction experiences. This comes at you straight from Fox News:
Well, I was in a tiny village in Mexico on the 17th of September, 1985. And I had a vision-like experience climbing a mountain there, on the top of which is a temple to the Mexo-American Christ figure, Ketso Quato. And one of these little UFOs came over that mountain and I was signaled from a group of persons to come. And I was beamed up into that small vehicle and carried to a larger vehicle, where I heard the voice of my leader and teacher, the Honorable Elijah Mohamed (search), saying these words to me, in early September, the president met with his joint chiefs of staff to plan a war. He didn’t tell me who the war was against or what not. But early in the next year, it came to me while I was in Ghana that this war was against Libya and Libya’s leader Muammar Qaddafi. So I went there and warned him of what was about to take place. And it did take place.
If you’re not already familiar with this incident, Farrakhan claims that this was also the inspiration for his famous Million Man March of ten years ago.

if you make enough predictions, one or two are bound to come true.
I predict that more people will leave comments on this post…
yes, but did you get the message from a silver spaceship?
I was in a restaurant watching this live on TV. I had never heard of this myth before and I spit my drink out on the poor bastard next to me when he said “And one of these little UFOs came over that mountain and I was signaled from a group of persons to come”. The guy next to me looked at me and said “He usually has some pretty good things to say.” I looked back and “Yeah I always though he was a great orator - i guess there goes that credibility. What a fucking dumbass to be telling this story.” I remember just staring at the screen in a malaise that I had not had since the riveting presidentail debates of the last two years. What a fuck!
Yeah I think it’s interesting that he’s so damned open about all this stuff. I mean later in that interview, he gets a little dodgy about whether or not NOI really believes that white people were literally created by an evil alien scientist. Which he should be dodgy about, because it’s whacky shit. But why is he so okay with talking about this UFO stuff?
In one way, I want to be like - this guy’s obviously nuts. But on the other, I sort of want to applaud him for being so absolutely open about it. If more people were just honest about their own weird experiences, none of them would really seem all that weird anymore.
it worked for many historical figures. jacob, for instance. ezeliel. the guy who started the mormon church. louis likes to think in a big way, so why not. and who`s to say that white folks weren`t made by an evil alien? there are many who begin to believe what appears as nonsense coming from the big shiny brown guy with the fake prada glasses and the james brown hairdo and will cut him a cheque anytime he says so.
i`ve seen some wierd shit in the sky too and my baptist friend accuses me of new-age, cult behavour as well, so if it was profitable and my publicist said so, maybe i could be a little more frank about my visions.
Bret!
Funny you should say that, because Farrakhan is my DUMBASS Of The Week (DOTW)!
Farrakhan also said “I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach,†Farrakhan imparted. “It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry.†Now, why didn’t the spacemen tell him about THAT in advance??
farrakhan is a dumbass, and a straight up racist. but guess what? so is chazz. and not only is his blog filled with hate, it’s also totally fucking lame.
dissing kanye west?
dumbass
Ketso Quato? I think whoever transcribed this meant “Quetzalcoatl:”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quetzalcoatl
Yeah I thought that as well. There’s a good chance it’s just an alternate name for the same (or a similar) figure.
Sorry, but you guys are all wrong on this one. My lawyer actually saw this City In the Sky in 1991 on the way back from his girlfriend’s house in Minnesota. No one believes him, but he says he saw it for 20 minutes riding down the highway. He then went home and fell asleep on the laundry room floor. Upon waking, he thought he dreamt the whole thing. He went outside and saw it again.
He described it as awesome, but horrible. He said it looked like a small city in the sky with a tower at the top.
Furthermore, it appears the smaller planes have cloaking devices. I would assume the city can be cloaked as well. (http://www.rense.com/general52/deff.htm) In 1999, there was a siting of a dark mass over the Social Security Administration building in Woodlawn, MD. Lights couldn’t pierce through it, but there was something there. It covered the whole area of the building itself.
Next, there’s the ‘Psychology of Belief’ associated with UFOs. It’s not that they don’t exist, it’s that some minds cannot conceive of anything that they don’t see on CNN or FOX News Channel. We accept the truth from certain sources and outside of that, we doubt. The early Indians couldn’t see the Armadas sitting on the horizon until the Chief told them they were there. So, even if 100,000 people saw a UFO formation fly over a football stadium, a week later 99,990 of them would doubt they saw anything.
A christian minister in Baltimore told me he was chased (well really followed, because I think the craft would have caught him if it wanted to) down the street by a UFO in the 70s. His friend was with him, but cannot recall the event at all.
Lastly, in 1983, I had seen a ship come down over my apartment. We lived on the 3rd floor and I was eight years old. I was standing with my mom, my two brothers and my sister and it was right there atop the building. It stayed awhile and backed away.

I would submit that many of those who view this forum have the same myopic view. Farrakhan is only a racist because the prevailing view is that he is a racist. As I recall, this was the world’s view of Malcolm X in the 60s. Dr. King was also called a dumb-ass by more than half the country - Black and White. Most views here are representative of the status quo and if any of you took a first year communications class, you’d see that. I’m willing to bet that when Farrakhan is gone, he’ll be hailed as a ‘controversial leader who wanted the best for his people.’ Why do you suppose the media and the world would wait until he’s gone to do that?
shit it’s funny to watch someone burst into the room with their eyes shut and mouth open (it’s normally me doing it).
about what? take a look around, people in these here parts believe just about anything freaky. i don’t think there’s anyone here who won’t admit to a paranormal experience of some sort.
but this is just silly:
the indians could see them fine, they just couldn’t say so before the chief did, it would make him look bad.
farrakhan is a racist because he keeps saying we should kill all the white devils. while an oppressed race can be expected to hate the race that oppresses them, it is worth noting that malcolm x changed his tune completely after his pilgrimage to mecca where he was amazed by the beautiful diversity of humankind, the brotherhood of all colours. he saw that race is not the real issue, but a distraction, and that the devil has no colour.
that’s when the devil killed him.
that’s not to say that racism doesn’t exist, of course it does and it’s a fucking disgrace. but farrakhan is a dumbass because he’s still playing the role the devil wants him to. the hate role. that’s why he hasn’t been killed. and that’s why he’ll be canonised when he’s gone. just so you know.
but we love him because he talks openly about his ufo experiences. good for him.
are you sure?
Well, Carlos already took this one to town obviously, but I have a couple things to add
Wrong about…? First you tell us we’re wrong, and then proceed to tell us UFO’s are real. Guess what - most people here will back you on that, myself included. So what are we wrong about, racism? Carlos already took care of that so I’ll move on:
Don’t even get me started on that one, my friend. You’re trying to tell us that since you took a first year communication course at some stupid college that you can suddenly see into the deepest corners or everything we’re saying? Obviously, if that was the case, you’d have realized just how inaccurate your own comments were and how out of place they are in the larger scheme of this site and its visitors.

[...] As much of Saab paints his characters as left-wing heroes, there are some unfortunate and heavy-handed depictions of women through the book as well. In fact, I can’t recall any female characters who weren’t either vile demonic temptresses, prostitutes, KKK members or Neo-Nazis. He also seems to have a special axe to grind with the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan and their teachings that black people come from another planet. There is also a strong fixation with the beneficial industrial uses of hemp (along with copious use of “the chronicâ€). [...]
