Linkin’ Log?

I’ve been feeling the urge to put together another sideblog to capture just interesting articles that I find in my daily wanderings. I guess in the word of blogging they call these things “linklogs”. I’m thinking something in the style of DailyGrail or AltReligion, or Kottke’s Remaindered links section. Basically one sentence descriptions of articles which are worth reading, but to which I might not have anything especially intelligent to add to it by way of commentary.

Anyway, I just wanted to guage public interest in that sort of thing. Do people enjoy that style of posting? If I were to do it, would you rather see linklog entries interspersed with regular long-format articles like I post here? Or would you rather I had a simple set-up dedicated to spewing out links? Lately, I’ve just been using the forum for that kind of stuff, but maybe a separate linklog is a better idea.

I realize there’s kind of a lot to cover on my site at this point, with my main blog, the forum, and the possible addition of a linklog. Is it getting to be too much, or is it fun to have these other layers of interaction?

I think a sideblog with links would be cool. And if you wanted to do one-line commentary you could put it in the “alt” text so it would show up when you mouse over.

A good example of this is here in the left column (”Particles” and “Sidelights”).

Yeah, that’s cool. I kind of want these to have their own separate URL’s though, so they can have permanent addresses, rather than the more ephemeral approach this guy seems to be taking. I could probably set it up so that I could feed the RSS from that linklog into the sidebar of this main one… I’m looking into it.

I think a daily links page would be good and helpful

Wouldn’t the link part of the forum be the same thing? I do like the idea, but I guess that would mean that the link area in the forum would be for us to use and you probably wouldn’t post too much in there yourself if you had your own link page.

Right, well the forum is more for you guys anyway - so you can post things and discuss without my say-so. I’m going to keep posting in more fragmentary thoughts there and engage people in interesting discussions, use this for more long format stuff, and the linklog for super shorties.

It would be a wonderful idea. I can imagine how much you go through in a day, let alone a week! Might turn up interesting tidbits that don’t quite “fit” yet that others may find inspiration or notes for.
